Dry Mouth and Bad Breath
65 People associate bad breath with poor dental hygiene practices. It is not entirely true that a person with bad breath does not take proper steps to manage the health of their teeth and mouth. The reality of the situation is, bad breath is often an indication of deeper health problems. Bad breath is a soul mate of dry mouth. They frequently happen at the same time. The formal name for dry mouth is xerostomia.
An individual's first sign of dry mouth include a feeling of a dry or parched mouth and tongue sensation. And dry mouth is a situation in which there is not enough saliva produced in the mouth. Saliva is provides oxygen the mouth needs to manage and kill the bacteria and fungus that grows in the mouth. Bacteria and fungus that grows in the mouth are known as "anaerobic bacteria." Anaerobic bacteria loves an environment in which there is no oxygen. It grows quickly in such a place. Once the bacteria and fungus have grown out of control, one of the resulting outcomes is odor known as bad breath and dry mouth. With sufficient saliva in the mouth the dry mouth environment disappears.

It is true that people with health problems has dry mouth, when you are with people who takes medication and another thing I noticed is when you don't drink enough water-dehydrated,yes. and when you sleep a couple of hours a night too. I would read this on the day the dog chewed up my toothbrush. :)
Great information. I once told a friend that he had a dry mouth problem. It was very noticeable when he got close to me. It was very uncomfortable to tell him, but I think he was helped by it. At first, he would hesistate to come near me or he would make sure he had gum or candy in his mouth.
A very useful and informative hub!

I used to have cracked lips. The problem had been on-going for years and I relied on lip balm. Later on, I started taking Vitamin E supplement and it is a lot better now. However, I didn't know that cracked lips result in bad breath. I do know that I have bad breath occasionally. Another thing that I noted is that I get bad breath when I am hungry!
