Tattoo Removal is a Process
By 6hotfingers3
Tattoos or body art popularity comes and goes with the mood of society. Currently tattoos are openly displayed by people from all walks of life. The tattoos are expressions of an individual's strong personal feelings made visible for the world to see. Often times that visible place is on the body of a person.
For the most part, a tattoo remains on the skin for the rest of the individual's life. A person may change his/her mind about the statement made through tattoo art. Unfortunately, the statement can not be changed or removed from the body with ease. Sometimes a person decides the tattoo did not come out the way they envisioned. The individual wishes to get rid of it. This will not happen as easily as the individual wishes it to happen. For the most part the individual is stuck with the tattoo that is sculptured on their body.
Should a person decide the tattoo is no longer desired, there are several considerations that must be addressed. First there are several reasons it is difficult and in some cases impossible to remove a tattoo from the body. And there are ways to begin the removal but the process takes time. And the tattoo removal process is highly dependent on the colors the individual wishes to eliminate.
The Process of Removing Tattoos
The process of removing tattoos will require several visits to the trained professional. And it is a costly process. For some people the removal of a tattoo may only require one visit to the doctor or clinic. Some people and in most cases the majority people will require several visits. Those visits may include removal by cutting out the tattoo, or by dermabrasion or by laser removal. Regardless of the process selected, it is painful to remove the tattoo. There is no guarantee the removal process will completely eliminate the tatotoo or evidence of it.
People with dark skin could develop keloids from the removal process. They often require several visits to the doctor or clinic. The reason, the darker the skin, the more challenging it will be to remove the tattoo colors.
Home removal of a tattoo is not likely to remove a tattoo, especially if the tattoo was professionally and correctly designed on the body in the first place. However, sometimes a tattoo that was applied by an amateur could be removed . The consequences of home removal are burned skin or other skin damage. In most cases, people use a homemade acid solution that must be used cautiously.
There are many creams on the market that claim to remove a tattoo, save your money. Creams can not penetrate deep enough into the skin where the pigment is implanted.
Removing Tattoo Color Pigments
The key to removing tattoo colors or pigments, is to penetrate the skin down to the dermis level. The next consideration are the colors the individual wishes to remove. If the colors are blue or black, there is a good chance the may be removed. This also depends on the skin type. If the person has fair complexion skin, there is a greater chance of removing blues and blacks. The darker the skin the more difficult it is to remove blues and blacks. Black pigment is easier to remove than blue. The color green is most difficult to remove and it is followed by the color light blue. The colors orange, green, red, and yellow are the most difficult colors to remove.
Techniques Used to Remove Tattoos
Lasers are the most popular method used to remove tattoos. They work because they emit short intense light pulses into the skin. The laser light explodes the tattoo ink pigment. And the tattoo is destroyed in the area the laser beam was applied.
- Dermabrasion is also known as "CO2." It is a laser technique which is known to leave scaring at the place of removal.
- Excision is the cutting out of the tattoo from the skin. It also leaves scars and for some people keloids.
- Dermatologist are doctors who specialize in skin conditions. Some dermatologist voluntarily remove gang related tattoos. This is a way to help people change negative lifestyles.
- The "Q-Switch" laser works well on dark colors. It is the most popular tattoo removal method used.
Think About It
If you are considering getting a tattoo, think about what you are about to do to yourself. Ask yourself will I feel as strongly ten or twenty years from now about the message I'm about to have etched onto your body? Will I be proud to explain to my children or grandchildren the reason I got the tattoo? Will I be a good role model for them to follow after they learn I got one when I were their age too? Is it worth it to experience the pain of trying to remove the tattoo?
Tattoos are beautiful. They are made to stay on the body for the rest of the individual's life. Are you willing to live with your tattoo and will you always feel the same about it?
For those individuals that already have a tattoo, your tattoo is an expression of something you felt very strongly about. The tattoo was your strongest way to express something you felt a connection to. Explain to your children and grandchildren your tattoo represents something that was very important to you at the time. It is not a license for them to get one for the sake of having one or because it is a cool thing to do.
