Your Own Online Store What Would You Do
62The internet comes to us with a world of opportunities. Its many uses have not yet been fully used even by the most brilliant of technologically savvy minds. It was soon evident in the early years of the internet that an avenue that profited well in this environment was online sales. Repeatedly sales on the internet exploded during the holidays to a point where distributors could not keep up with their orders. It was a good adventure and a very stressful situation for both the buyer and the supplier. Today, it does not look as if the internet or online sales are losing momentum selling everything imaginable and even things the rest of us never imagined.
It was for that reason, I thought I would investigate the eCommerce world of online internet sales. I thought If I were opening an online store what would I offer to the public as a niche? How would I decide on a price that is profitable and reasonable at the same time? What visual impact would I make on visitors to the site? How would I gain their trust so they would feel comfortable using their credit cards and other forms of tender on my site? How would I attract the different search engines to come and crawl around on my site? What do I need to do to get a page ranking that tells the world this is a reliable site? And what in the world are meta tags?
Publishing the Website
After building the site and making it appealing to humans, its time to publish your work. But you're not out of the forest yet, the site must also be appealing to the Search Engines or internet web crawlers. They are actually the elements that will make or destroy the value and ranking of your website. The search engines are the ones that add value and credibility to the site you painstakingly built. They add credibility by ranking or "PageRank" your site. A companion to page ranking is indexing the your site. These two actions are performed by the search engines.
A key to attracting search engines is to write blogs that relate to your site. Frequently refresh the content of the site. And use links as often as you can. These are the keys to publishing your page and achieving the most covenant "PageRank" and indexing.
Page ranking and indexing are dependent on linking from your site to other related sites. In return the site should link back to your site, also known as "backlinking.". Its not a life or death situation if the site chooses not to link back to your site but it helps your site achieve the page ranking faster.
An analogy to linking and page ranking are similar to a spider web. The spider is the crawler who patrols his web from one end to the other. If the spider finds a critter in the web, there is a great chance the spider will drag it back to the center and consume the juices from the bug. Or the spider will discard the critter from the web if it is not something it enjoys eating. This is the same principle as the internet crawlers or search engines. If the internet crawlers like what they find in a site and the links are legitimate, there is a good chance the page will receive a page ranking from the internet crawler. The site receives a ranking because the internet crawler likes what it finds and everything meets specific criteria. Thats what most web site owners want for their site.
Links on the Website
Links on the website are critical components to gaining recognition on the internet . Links make the phrase "world wide web" the unique tool it is today. Websites provide connections to its users by linking their site material to other similar sites on the same topic.Website users only need to click on the related site and they gain additional information without retyping the topic in the search space.
Linking a website to similar websites is not an easy task to achieve. The search engines look for key words within the text content. Then the search engine brings the website to the top of the search process, those sites that have proven information on the topic. The key words are links to the search engines and to other sites that provide similar information. Website owners know the value of selecting the best key word for the content of their site. Those key words could bring in tons of sales and income for the owner of the site that has the best possible key words. They are the link to the world wide web environment.
Key words are the words people use to look up information. If the key words in a site match the key word a person is researching, the internet crawlers will place the site at the top of the search request of the individual. As a result, website owners are tempted to purchase key words that will attract web crawlers. Some websites purchase key words and they also purchase links to their websites.
Purchasing Links to Websites
There is no written code that says a website can not purchase links to other websites. The unspoken rule says, if a search engine determines a site purchased its links, horrible things could happen to the website.
A search engine determines if a site purchased links instead of gained them the "natural way." The natural way is through credible content and through the usage of key words the search engine determines could be used to link to other sites.
A site the search engine determines purchased its links could experience a "silent devalued" status. The site is placed in a "condom" which will not allow it to pass on information to other sites. That is because the site did not pass the search engine "pass reputation" criteria. Once a site is evaluated and receives a devalued status code, it would be useless to try an achieve a page ranking.
Consequently, the site will have an extremely difficult time acquiring the confidence of customers who want assurance the site is legitimate. After the site is listed as devalued, it could further be marked as "castrated." PageRanking is again futile. It will not happen. Its the same as associating with the wrong crowd and end up ruining your own reputation.
The lesson learned from purchasing links would be, "is it worth it?" Building a site is a lot of work and it is a product of your intellectual skills. That is information that comes from the individual. Why work hard to have it lost because a few illegal short cuts were taken. As life dictates, some people get away with it and some people don't. Why take the chance?
What Do You Think
At the beginning of this Hub, there was mention of a new online store in the making. It sells everything under the sky. Should it develop a niche or try to sell everything to everyone in one small space. What would you sell?
On this site non-profit organizations and team groups are treated generously. There are plenty of clean-up activities that need to be performed on the site. Take a look at it and send the site a suggestion of what it needs to appeal to the public. What does it need to do to acquire page ranking? What niche would work best here and how would you improve its appearance and ranking on the world wide web. Take a good look and send your opinion to the site "contact us" page. You won't be wasting your time. Click here!

Good information 6hotfingers3. loved reading it!
Hi 6hotfingers3, Thanks for an informative Hub. I've just published a cookbook and am trying to think of different ways to sell it. :)
Hi sixhotfingers3, great hub! I recently discovered that if you are an Amazon Affiliate then you can open your own online store and select the product(s) you want to sell. Then you are given your own URL to promote the store. I believe you can have 100 stores!
Cloverleaf.
Good information. Thanks for sharing. Most of us have websites. Knowledge is another tool in our process to be all we can be...
